Five Reasons to Send Us Your Facility's Packing List

Clipboard with a facility packing list showing allowed and banned items

Every admissions team has watched it happen. A family arrives with a bag packed from a list they found online, and half of it can't come in. Mouthwash, an aerosol, a spiral notebook, a throw blanket from home. Staff sort it at the door, the family takes it back to the car, and a hard day gets harder.

The family wasn't careless. They packed from the wrong list. Most "what to bring to rehab" pages online are written for a facility somewhere else, or for no facility at all.

Recovery Ready builds admission kits that are checked against the receiving facility's own rules before they ship. To do that, we need your list. Here's what sharing it gets you.

1. Fewer items to sort at intake

When a kit is built to your rules, there's nothing in it your staff has to take away. No confiscation log, no bag of items waiting for a family member, no conversation about why the shampoo has to go. Intake time goes to the person, not the luggage.

2. No two lists are the same, and families can't tell the difference

We've now collected written packing rules from more than 30 Pennsylvania programs. Almost every one bans alcohol in toiletries. After that, they split. Personal blankets are banned at nine programs in our database and allowed at one. Some require specific brands of shampoo and deodorant. Some ban bar soap, pens, Q-tips or wire-bound notebooks. Some supply linens, razors or notebooks themselves.

A family can't know which of those rules applies to you unless someone tells them. Your list is the only source that's right for your door.

3. Families arrive less stressed

The 24 to 48 hours before admission are often the hardest a family goes through. Shopping for an unfamiliar list, guessing at rules and then losing items at the door adds to it. A kit that's already right is one less thing to get wrong.

4. It costs your facility nothing

Sharing your list is free, and there's no contract or referral arrangement attached. We use it to check every kit going to your program, and we keep the source and date on file so we know when to check again.

5. You stay in control of the rules

Your list stays yours. If your policy changes (a new banned item, a brand switch, a sealed-only rule), send the update and we change our spec for your program. We would rather remove an item than ship something you'll turn away.

What we need

  • The what-to-bring and what-not-to-bring list you give families before admission. A photo of the handout is fine.
  • If your programs differ (detox versus residential, adolescent versus adult), each list.
  • The best person to contact when a policy changes.
