Short answer: Often yes, with conditions. Of the 74 treatment programs in our database that publish a rule on a razor, 46 (62%) allow it, 35 of them with limits. Every program sets its own rules, so check the specific program before you pack.

Why programs restrict a razor
Razors are treated as sharps, and programs control sharps for everyone's safety. Some ban personal razors and provide their own, some allow only electric or disposable plastic razors, and some keep razors at the nurses' station and hand them out when needed.
What to do instead
If you want to pack a razor, check the program's list first. An electric razor is allowed more often than a blade. Never pack straight razors or loose blades.
Rules by program
Each rule is taken from the program's own published packing list, checked October 2026. "General rule" means the program doesn't name the item but bans a category that includes it.
